Echinacea pallida
There are many species and cultivars of this favorite genus for pollinators and birds, but this is our native Maine species. It is slightly smaller, blooms earlier, and tolerates drought better than its well-known purple cousin.
This plant is a Climate Resiliency species. It is not a true native to Maine; however, we are on the northern edge of its native range in North America, and as the climate changes, this range is likely to shift upward. This plant still has excellent ecological value and may be a crucial species that our wildlife rely on in the future.
